To eBook or not to eBook…

I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that I haven’t quite found my blogging groove. That’s not to say I don’t have lots of ideas rattling around in my head for blog posts, because I totally do! They just haven’t seemed to flow from my brain to the keyboard as often as I had hoped they would. Sorry! I hereby promise to do a better job, so hold me accountable, okay?

With that said, here we go…

Is this the future of reading?

Is this the future of reading?

As you’ve probably already heard unless you live in a hole in the ground, Apple released their new iPad this past weekend. Since I’m a book junkie and a technology geek, I couldn’t help but think about how the iPad is going to affect the way people read.

I know there have been eReaders on the market for quite a while now. The Kindle and the Nook are just a couple of the ones out there.  My husband even uses his cell phone as a reading device.  Now the iPad has arrived and Apple reports 250,000 iBooks were sold the day it was released.

As a certified book lover, I find myself torn.  The idea of one lightweight book that can hold all the books I might possibly want to read for the month/year/decade is very intriguing.  No more finishing up a book and having to wait for the opportunity to visit the library or a bookstore.  As soon as the new book in a series by my favorite author comes out I can be reading it.  I never even have to leave the comfort of my favorite reading chair!  It’s a beautiful thought!

At the same time, I don’t know if I’m ready to give up the books that line the walls of my house.  There’s just something about actually holding a book and turning the pages that I love.  Will I be as happy with the simulated pages on an eBook?  I just don’t know…

What do you think?  Will you eBook or not?

Watched Any Good Books Lately?

Recently I had the opportunity to see “The Lightning Thief” at the theater.  Since it is based on a book that almost everyone at my house loved, we had all been eagerly counting the days until the movie was released.  We got our extra-large, super-buttery popcorn and drinks, found the perfect seats, and settled in to enjoy the magic as characters we had become friends with came to life on the silver screen.  Two hours later, we left the theater more than a little disappointed.

I think if I had never read the book I probably would have liked the movie.  Instead I found myself wondering why they changed so many things and left things out that were important, especially if they want to make the other four books in the series into movies.  Very puzzling…

How about you?  Have you ever watched a movie that was based on one of your favorite books and left feeling like you’d been cheated out of what could have been an amazing cinematic experience?  Or maybe it was everything you hoped it would be.  Which books made great movies and which movies should have never been made?

Hello, World!

Welcome to my new blog!

I have a confession to make.  I am a Book Junkie.  I know.  It’s hard to believe at first, but it’s absolutely true.  I love books!  If you could see my house, you would probably be surprised at the number of books we have.  There’s at least one bookshelf in every room.  We have books hidden away in the tops of closets and in storage boxes under the beds.  We even have books in the laundry room!

My husband and I have books tucked away for safe keeping at our parents’ houses and at our church.  We each have a shelf or two of books at our workplace.  To be honest, we’re starting to run out of room for all of our books.  We’re considering moving the kids into the garage so we can use their rooms for more shelf space!

So there it is.  It’s finally out in the open.  I am a Book Junkie.  This blog is a place for me to share my thoughts on books I’m reading, books I’ve read, and books I want to read.  I hope you will join me here, and let me know your thoughts as well.  I can’t wait to see what books have grabbed your attention.  Maybe I’ll even find a few that I need to bring home!
